When SOTO-USA was formed eight years
ago, all we had were a small group of talented teachers, a plastic
spine, and a dream. We now have a full array of books, a clear SOT
Manual, all the SOT and cranial courses on powerpoint, and a full
complement of certified teachers. We've refined and standardized the
teaching process so that what used to take years of study and confusion
can now be learned in just a few weekends. This includes all levels of
SOT as well as four levels of Cranial Technique, Extremity work,
pediatrics, and CMRT.
But teaching was only part of our goal: we were also committed to the
growth of SOT. To that end we've made significant strides, especially
in terms of creating professional bridges between our sister
professions like dentistry. We are now proud members of the TMD
Alliance, an association of professionals dedicated to the treatment of
TMD. We have also developed affiliate relationships with the
ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) and AAPM
(American Academy of Pain Management), SOT and SOT Cranial are now part
of the ICPA's pediatric certification program.
We have also begun negotiations with various state
chiropractic associations and chiropractic colleges to create regional
teaching programs throughout the country. Our new book, The SOT Manual
2006, is being sold in college bookstores, the first in a series of
steps to help restore our presence on college campuses and curriculum.
In short order we'll begin our next project: an "Online University."
Soon, students will be able to learn SOT over the internet and doctors
will be able to learn and receive CE credit!
Our research outreach to the chiropractic profession has been similarly
successful. Many of our papers have been published in peer reviewed
journals and research conferences. Our most recent SOT Compendium
2000-20005, an extensive collection of all articles ever published on
SOT and cranial techniques, will be available by Winter of 2008.
Our next National Symposium, scheduled for Dallas in October of 2008,
promises to be the best one yet. We'll continue to develop the dental
track along with additional SOT courses including SOT-Cranial Treatment
of TMJ as well as various SOT Category protocols.
If you don't want to wait until next October for a training, no
problem! Our spring teaching schedule, soon to be announced, will offer
several opportunities to learn techniques regionally so you don't have
to travel far.
One of the basic tenets of SOTO-USA is our availability and readiness
to hear the ideas of fellow members. Our input is a mere e-mail away.
