Thursday October 25, 2007 |
Thursday's Clinical Pearls will feature an introduction to the
ATM2 (Active Therapeutic Movement) a state of the art
physiotherapeutic aid assisting rehabilitation and treatment of
difficult movement disorders. As a diagnostic tool the ATM2 can be used
to find a therapeutic
position and then using the ATM2 allows the doctor to stabilize the
patient to perform
specific neuromuscular training. The retraining is based on body
movement isolation that
aims to achieve and sustain immediate pain reduction, increase range of
motion, and improve function. While helpful with acute trauma
patients commonly seen with category 3 disc disorders it can also be a
valuable tool for stabilization and retraining in category two
sacroiliac joint dysfunction. This presentation will feature how
the ATM2 can be used in a typical SOT chiropractic office. |

The Elusive Category Two Dr. Robert Monk Thursday, October 25, 2007 1:00-1:50 pm |
The Arm-Fossa Test, even when performed correctly, can sometimes give erroneous results. Despite Dr. DeJarnette’s extensive documentation and descriptions of the examination and determination of the Category Two SI ligamentous sprain injury, it is often difficult to identify using the Arm-Fossa Test. Dr. Monk will offer an overview of the Arm-Fossa Test, its anatomical and neurological mechanism and administration and discuss alternative methods of determining the Category Two condition. Also offered will be several advanced strategies for blocking non-typical pelvic imbalance. Also illustrated will be several strategies for improving results to properly identify the appropriate blocking configuration. |

Indicator Techniques using the Occipito-Mastoid Dr. Robert Coté Thursday, October 25, 2007 3:20-5:00 pm |
Dr. Coté, backed by almost 50 years of clinical experience, will offer his own unique method of identifying subluxation patterns using sutural analysis. His technique combines aspects of Polarity and Reflexology Therapies with Dr. DeJarnette’s own system of CMRT (Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique). His system of treatment utilizes a unique system for identifying energy imbalances in the reflex points and using pelvic indicators for monitoring the treatment outcomes. The treatment begins with certain often-overlooked identifying patterns found on palpation of the occipito-mastoid sutures. |
Category One SOTO-USA Staff (Drs. Christine Benner & Charles Blum) Friday, October 26, 2007 9:00am-1:00pm, 2:00 -6:00 pm (8 hours) |
The Category One
condition occurs when the Pelvis shifts in sagittal plane, causing the
sacrum to rotate and the dural attachment to torque. This is
believed to lead to meningeal stress which has repercussions locally in
the pelvis, up through the various segments of the spine, and up into
the meninges covering the brain. The result is an distortion of
the normal fluid movement pattern of the CSF which may effect
neurological function throughout the body. This will be a hands-on / lecture class, fully explaining the Category I lesion, its aspects, and its treatment. Students will be taught the examination procedures specific to the Category One condition as well as pelvic blocking procedures. Also included will be the methods of treating meningeal stress in the spine as well as identifying their location using occipital line palpation. This class is required for all those practitioners interested in obtaining certification status. |

SOTO-USA Staff (Drs. Martin Rosen & Curtis Langer) Friday October 26, 2007 9:00am-1:00pm, 2:00-6:00pm < Saturday, October 27, 2007 9:00am-1:00pm, 2:006:00pm (12 hours) |
This will be a
hands-on / lecture class, fully explaining Chiropractic Manipulative
Reflex Technique in its entirety. The premise of CMRT is that the
vertebral dysfunction can lead to specific neural dysfunction,
especially as it relates to viscero- somatic enervation. By
identifying the location of these levels of dysfunction and by using a
system of manual reflex points, the practitioner can identify and
neutralize the deleterious effect of nerve irritation and maintain
optimal neurological health. This course will stress methods of
identifying the reflex points as well as their relationship to
occipital line analysis. Rather than focusing on a vertebra-by-vertebra approach, this course uses a teaching method based on the clinical findings inherent in the occipital line analysis. This approach will aid the student in clinical practice to better identify and administer treatment to the reflex points using a systematic approach. This class is required for all those practitioners interested in obtaining certification status. |

Category Transitions 2:00-3:50pm |
Although much has been written about treating patients when they display classic signs and symptoms within the categories, dealing with them as they transition between the categories can be confusing, even to experienced practitioners. Drs. Charles Blum & Martin Rosen will explain treatment goals, strategies and protocols for dealing with these challenging cases. Various case studies will be offered to illustrate the stages of transition, their anatomical and physiological mechanisms, and the basis for their treatment. Special attention will be paid to identifying the signs and symptoms of these transition phases and the manner in which their treatment fits into the entire SOT system of care. |

The theory of vibrational medicine and energy healing will be discussed, with special emphasis placed on the use of the Bach Flower Remedies, their theoretical implications and applications. Several of these remedies will be offered for examination. Also offered will be the methods by which they can be integrated into clinical practice, especially as they relate to SOT. |
Cranial Intra-oral Manipulation SOTO-USA Staff (Drs. Monk & Langer) Saturday, October 27, 2007 4:10-6:00pm Sunday, October 28, 2007 9:00-12:00noon (5 hours) |
This will be a
hands-on / lecture class, fully explaining the theory and practice of
the Cranial Intra-Oral moves in their entirety. Where the
Category Two cranial techniques focus on enhancing moving patterns and
reducing biomechanical stress in the sutural areas, between the cranial bones, they don't accommodate meningeal stress patterns related to Category One conditions. These may require an Intra-Oral application as opposed to an externally applied approach. Special attention will be paid to the inter-relationship between the Category One indicators as they relate and help identify the presence of cranial lesions and monitor their treatment. Goals of treatment will be offered in case-study and anecdotal forms. Cranial anatomy and ranges of motions will be reviewed, as well as various cranial treatment strategies. Students will become familiar with the theory and clinical applications of these maneuvers and will be carefully supervised by table instructors as to their proper application. |
