I trust you won't mind if I say you are naive here. There is no
rift. The research community has every right to speak out on a matter
that impacts and continues to hurt our profession, that being
unsubstantiated claims. The research world, which is comprised of
people and should not be spoken of as a monolithic entity, certainly
knows that no one is swimming in money- Why do you think they go after
grants? Most researchers do feel that continual claims hurt us all, and
that if only certain tools could be used by those who make the claims
we might improve our lot. Whether you think people are in it for the
money or not, truth is that lots of technique folks make their living
selling what they do, and some are good and others are not, and how do
we know? Why is our, us researchers, problem to solve? IS not the
burden of proof on the person making the claim?
Have a wonderful holiday, Charles.
