The Making of History
Robert Klingensmith, DC, CSP, DAAPM

In an organization's history there are many “firsts.” However, (as the saying goes) there is but one opportunity to make a first impression. Given the comments from attendees, faculty, and exhibitors, the SOTO-USA 2000 Clinical Symposium which was held in Chicago August 24-27, was more than just a fabulous success, it was a watershed event. As stipulated in our mission statement, "Sacro Occipital Technique Organization (SOTO)-USA seeks to provide an open forum for the interdisciplinary exchange of information as it relates to (Sacro Occipital Technique) S.O.T. and its advancements".

The SOTO-USA 2000 Clinical Symposium fulfilled that objective in a resounding fashion. The faculty line up was a veritable “who's who” in not only the chiropractic field, but in that of dentistry, naturopathy, homeopathy, myofascial trigger point therapy and research. Over the four day period we presented an amazing wealth of information. The integration and interrelation of SOT with other techniques and disciplines presented unique opportunities for intra-disciplinary as well as inter-disciplinary associations, and all in the interest of improving patient care and minimizing human suffering.

Dr. George Goodheart offered the featured address Saturday afternoon in which he gave many personal accounts of his association with Dr. DeJarnette, the originator of SOT. Following Dr. Goodheart's presentation, the highlight of the weekend was the special SOTO-USA tribute to Dr. Goodheart for his lifelong service to humanity and chiropractic Meeting with Dr. Goodheart and hearing him lecture about his strong relationship with Dr. DeJarnette and SOT was truly inspirational. It was truly our personal honor to have Dr. Goodheart participate. His unassuming, humble manner and generosity exemplified what it means to be a doctor, teacher and healer. History was made. SOT and Chiropractic, in a cooperative spirit, hand in hand with other allied health care providers will move forward through the unsettled waters of the health care delivery system with a single purpose: to provide optimum patient care. SOTO-USA in association with like-minded leaders and groups will lead the way.
